Scores of Kikuyu farmers today held a special session of prayers at Kikuyu Town in anticipation of rain .

The farmers expressed concern over delay of onset of rain saying that they risk starving if the expected rains fail to come in due time.

Monica Waithera , a local farmer said that they fear the farmers might lose everything they had planted a month ago .

“ We planted maize , potatoes and beans in anticipation of receiving long rain by mid- March but we have not received any drop”, said Waithera.

Joe Kariuki a bean farmer from Sigon Ward said that they have been left with nothing expect prayers .

“ We can't appease the god of rain by rituals but through praying “, said Kariuki.

The dry spell of drought has caused jittery among many farmers in the country and their future hangs in balance .

The farmers called on the meteorological Department to carry out due research that would help them plan their farming activities .

“ The meteorological Department should do its work professionally and and disseminate the findings to farmers at the right time “, added Kariuki.

Pastor James Waweru of ACK Kikuyu called on the Kenyans to repent and turn to God for mercy .

“ Sins may hold the rain and Kenyans should seek the face of living God for mercy “, said Waweru.
