Githobokoni ward MCA Moses Kiarie Munyua said the county government aims to plant 9 million tree seedlings in the county in the next four years which will be distributed according to the ability of sub counties and wards respectively.

Speaking at Kamwangi town during a public baraza, Munyua who is a committee member of Environment in the county assembly noted that with the onset of rains in the region, the county government could meet the international standards of ten per cent tree cover.

He lamented that charcoal burning and tree logging had depleted the forest cover and warned that action would be taken against people perpetrating the vice.

"The county is ready to give free seedlings to our able scouts for planting across Gatundu North. We will further work in collaboration with the Kenya Forestry Service to ensure environment conservation rules are adhered to and especially tree cutting menace that has rendered Kairi forestry dry," he said.

He said Kieni, Kairi, Gatundu North government farm and Chania forests would be given the first priority in the exercise as they are the main sources of rivers in the county and were the most affected by deforestation.

"I ask for total cooperation as we seek to green our county together. Let us make use of rain by creating a better tomorrow through tree plantation," he urged residents.
