Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party wants the position of Members of County Assemblies scrapped.
The party said county assemblies should be replaced with regional assemblies as the current structure of county government has no value to the common mwananchi.
The party’s chairman, John Mbadi, said MCAs have gone to bed with governors hence no meaningful development within counties.
“Some of them have been compromised by the Executive and have, therefore, lost meaning. They are only driven by business interests inimical to their mandate,” Mbadi said.
The vocal MP said this has led to misuse of public money.
“The result, as the Auditor General’s office shared with Kenyans recently, is a pointer to weaknesses and variables in smaller administrative units,” he said.
He added: “A lot of money has been wasted on recurrent expenditures and projects that are not sustainable. These are issues that will inform the ballot question at the referendum.”
