Police have arrested a middle-aged scrap metal dealer in connection with vandalism incidences in Mawanga and Teachers estates in Nakuru town. According to Mercy Musyoka, the police officer in charge of Teachers police post, Harold Mwai is being held at the police cells while investigations into vandalism in private homes, schools, churches, streets and other public arenas are going on. Musyoka told our reporter that the suspect, who was arrested last evening is believed to be paying crooks to vandalise scrap metal materials which he buys at low prices before selling them to other dealers in Nakuru town at a profit. “We arrested him with several scrap metal material believed to have been vandalised in various places recently. We will establish who sold the metals to him and whether he is connected to the vandalism syndicate believe exist here,” said Musyoka. According to the officer, several street lights posts, signposts, windows, doors and roofing materials have been reported vandalised, targeted for scrap metal markets.
