A Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church Elder, Naftal Nyamao from Irianyi SDA Church in Nyaribari Chache sub-County has dismissed the ongoing debate on gay marriages as a waste of time.
He has instead asked those engaging in such debates to re-direct their energies and time to other matters of national importance.
Nyamao has expressed concern over those clamouring for same sex marriages, questioning the motive of such debate yet it was very clear that the country's cultural values do not recognize such marriages as they reflect moral decadence of the country's social fabric.
Speaking in Kisii town, Nyamao stated that the SDA Church's doctrines do not approve same sex marriages.
"As an SDA faithful and shepherd of God, I cannot support gay marriages. Based on the biblical teachings, they constitute an abomination in the eyes of God," stated Nyamao.
He wondered why the clamour for legalising gay marriages saying,
"It is a shame to allow gay marriages in the country. The Holy Bible teaches us to respect the marriage institution which involves a man and woman and not the other way round," observed Nyamao.
