Youths in Uasin Gishu have been urged to avoid alcoholism and drugs and utilise the quality time they have in schools and colleges.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has also advised the youths to work towards improving the quality of their lives now and for the future.

Speaking on Monday at the Eldoret Show Grounds during the official opening of the SDA Pathfinders camporee, Mandago said the youths can change their fortunes if they work to improve their lot.

“Youth should work hard and be self-reliant. This will help them achieve quality and better results for better lives,” said Mandago.

He also urged parents to live by the teachings of the Holy Bible and teach their children the right way to live.

“I am happy to see more than 10,000 young people are being trained. This gives us hope that through the church and its teachings, we can create a hopeful world. Parents, let’s support the churches and guide our children in the right path,” he added.

The 10-day camp that started on December 3 ends on December 13 and will host approximately 10,400 young people from Uasin Gishu, Elgeiyo Marakwet and Nandi counties.
