Uasin Gishu County assembly Minority leader Ramadhan Ali has urged the county government to seal all the loopholes that promote corruption if it wants to achieve its Sh1 billion target revenue collection.

Speaking in his office on Friday, Ali said the county government is performing poorly in terms in revenue collection compared to the former municipal council.

He urged the county to automate revenue collection to enhance accountability and transparency as well as curb graft.

“I worked in the former Eldoret Municipal Council as a councillor and there we were collecting Sh1.2 billion in every financial year and Wareng Municipal Council Sh600,000 million. With the monies, we were able to pay our workers and other expenses,” he said.

“At the moment, the county is only realising Sh800 million. I think there is laxity and corruption in the revenue collection and the governor should fire them and hire more competent staff,” he added.

Ali also urged the government to increase its revenue collection staff to ensure that all businesses pay their taxes.

He said proper management of revenue collection can transform the region tremendously.
