On Tuesday, a video emerged online in which a student was seen being battered by a teacher causing bitter online discussion among residents of Kisii.

And Ong’era in a message to the reporter condemned the incident as ‘inhumane’ and called for an immediate action from the ministry of education on the institution’s top management.

“It’s sad that a school that performs so well nationally can revert to corporal punishment against the rules of the country. They are better ways of dealing with our young ones in schools other than what we saw online,” she said.

“The ministry of education should investigate the incident and take appropriate actions against the school head and the teacher responsible for the uncouth behavior. As a leader, I condemn the incident with the strongest terms possible,” she added.

A group of parents was blocked by the security guards from accessing the institution’s premises with the guards conceding of acting on orders from above. Until going to the press, the official number of the school principal Mrs Ochenge was unreachable.
