The surprise meeting between Governor Hassan Joho and Baringo senator Gideon Moi is an extension of Raila Odinga's handshake with retired President Daniel Moi,a source has revealed.
During the Thursday's meeting, the Mombasa governor and ODM Deputy Party leader hailed former president for 'good leadership' in posturing unity.
"The former president was a champion of peace an unity. I received Gideon and we have discussed a host of issues among them uniting this country," he said.
In Kabarak, Raila is said to have discussed on possibilities of backing Gideon Moi in 2022 elections, a move that has since irked William Ruto's camp.
But according to the source, Raila has since instructed Moi to work closely with Joho to consolidate coastal votes and a possible partnership.
"Raila is keen to have Joho thriving in politics and he has instructed him to work closely with Gideon for future partnerships.
"He wants Gideon to popularize himself across the country and more especially at the Coast. We shall see in future joint rallies held by the two and at times in Raila's company," said the source.
While Joho's tenure is coming to an end in 2022, it is not however clear what role he will play in the next government should Moi win presidency.
Raila is reportedly keen to work with 'moderate' Moi that radical 'Ruto' and the two are set to sign an MoU.
