[Photo/Mwaura Gachingiri/Facebook]A section of Juja sub-county residents near Kareme Petrol Station has protested what they have termed as 'encroachment' of an access road to Thika superhighway by a 'private developer'.The residents say that the 'developer' has also encroached on the drainage system which now puts them at a risk of contracting diseases."Our Greed has gone up to high heavens. We residents of Juja next to Kareme petrol station have been denied access road to Thika superhighway because one of the highly-living Kenyans has closed and encroached on our road and drainage system. "To make the matter worse, he is constructing under Kenya way-leave power line. We appeal to our Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Kenya Power to help us," Mwaura Gachingiri, a resident, said on Tuesday.Sammy Wai, another resident, said that he couldn't even access church on Sunday as he woke up to find the road closed."This road needs to be opened because we neighbours to this tycoon can't now access the highway. It is common knowledge that this is a road reserve and has been that way for many years," Wai said. Alexander Maina another victim said: "We appeal to Juja MP Francis Munyua to put an effort to assist us to have the road reopened. It is wrong for a private developer to close a public road. I passed through there yesterday and if action isn't taken people will get sick because of a blocked sewer line."However, Mutahi Kagiri who claimed to be the tycoon's neighbour defended his action."That's not a road, it's someone's property. I know about the said road clearly and there's no issue of greed there. The reason why the owner had not built on that land earlier is that there was a court case but it's now over and now he's not doing anything wrong by using his land," Kagiri said.
