A section of Kisii County Assembly members are worried of their security while in the house as some colleagues carry their guns along in the assembly.
According to Kiamakoma ward representatives, Kennedy Mainya, some of his colleagues have frequently showed him guns and most recently when they were in a retreat at the Maasai Mara.
“We are worried that some of our colleagues carry their guns in the house. This can cause harm especially during the heated emotions in the house. Some of us feel insecure,” said Mainya.
“I will be writing a standing order to our Speaker, Kerosi Ondieki, to take action on those carrying any kind of weapon in the chamber, since they are violating assembly rules,” said Mainya.
He said according to the standing orders should an MCA bring along such items to the House, then they must be deposited with the Sergeant-at-Arms and only be retrieved during departure from the assembly.
He is also blaming the Sergeant-at-Arms for failing in his duties for allowing some MCA to step into the house with weapon.
