A toilet section of Nyali Centre in Mombasa has collapsed.
The section collapsed on Monday due to what has been termed by residents as poor construction, according to the Star.
Business owners were kept off the building after it was cordoned off amid evacuation exercises.
The toilet section is reported to have collapsed from the fifth floor downwards. However, no injuries have been reported so far.
Confirming the incident, Mombasa County Urban Planning CeC Francis Thoya, said a section of the business premises, including Java House, Boxing Lounge and several banks have been closed.
“Officials will inspect the building before making recommendations. The authorities are searching for the engineers and contractors who did the shoddy job,” said Thoya.
Not long ago, a building collapsed in Nairobi's Huruma estate, leaving at least 49 people dead.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered an audit of every building in the country to avert future disasters.
