Residents of Katani location in Athi River Sub County have embarked on a search for more than 50 sheep which went missing on Monday night.
The sheep belonging to Benson Kyalo were reportedly stolen at around 4:00am.
Area chief Jane Mbithi told this writer the sheep were driven from their shed at Kyalo’s homestead when everybody was asleep.
“We have mobilized residents of Katani location to help in the search of the lost sheep with the help of the local administration police,” said Mbithi.
Ms Mbithi said they had assigned residents in several different areas within the vast location in attempt to help locate the sheep.
She said at the time of going to press, majority of the residents were conducting a search near the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Mbithi said none of the sheep had been recovered.
She sympathized with Mr Kyalo whom she said was aging and poor with the only sheep as property he owned.
“Mzee Kyalo is old, he does not have any property left since he solemnly depended on the sheep to earn his own livelihood and that of the family. He rears the livestock and sells them out in numbers to raise fees for his four children,” said Mbithi.
Mbithi called on the residents to be more vigilant and report suspiciously looking characters in the location to relevant authorities in a bid of fighting crime in the area.
