Northeastern regional commissioner Mohamud Saleh has stated that all security agencies have been involved to protect residents.

He said they are aware al Shabaab might want to sabotage the election.

“Al Shabaab are known to take advantage of the slightest opportunity presented to disrupt polls. As this is a national exercise, we’re not taking chances. We want to ensure the exercise goes on smoothly,” Saleh said.

“Voters should turn out in large numbers to vote and elect leaders who will address their plight. We have put in place adequate security measures in all polling stations, especially in areas the Shabaab have been targetting.”
