The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) kicked off across the country on Monday. 

4,388 students from Garissa county sat for the examination as the state beefed up security amid terror scare in different parts of the nation, with the exercise starting smoothly with no hitches reported. 

Speaking to the press at Iftin Girls, county commissioner James Kianda said that the Ministry of Education has organized for the airlifting of the examinations to distant areas to avoid any form of delays that are likely to affect the exercise. 

Some of the schools where the papers were airlifted to include Banane, Kulan, and Saka secondary schools. Kianda also said that the exercise was going as planned and assured the students of security during the examination period.

 “By 7.30am all exam materials had been delivered to all the 60 examination centers across the county. This will be the norm. I assure everybody, including the 4,388 candidates, which the exams will go on as planned. We will do everything humanly possible to ensure no hitches disrupt its smooth running,” Kianda said, as quoted by The Star. 

The exercise started after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i put in place strict measures to curb cheating.
