Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has assured participants who will attend the Lamu County Annual Cultural Festival of their security. Addressing journalists on Friday, Boinnet said the government has put in place all the necessary security measures to ensure that nothing goes wrong during the event. “Those who are going there for the festivities should be assured of their security. We have beefed up security in the entire region to ensure both local and international visitors enjoy the fete,” said Boinnet as quoted by the Nation.The organisers of the event project there will be a higher turnout compared to last year’s 10,000 visitors. Meanwhile, Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe during a press briefing in Mombasa urged Kenyans to remain vigilant during the festive season, saying the country is still at risk of facing terror attacks.“As our armed forces continue to protect this country from every threat both internal and external, we are asking the citizens not to drop the usual vigilance because the threat of terrorism is still with us,” said Kiraithe.Kiraithe, however, said the government is committed to protecting Kenyans from both internal and external attack.“The country is stable and the government has confidence in the professionalism and competence of all State institutions to continue performing their functions in the best interest of the Republic of Kenya,” he said.
