Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has assured residents of heightened security at the Likoni ferry channel.Speaking in Mombasa after touring the channel on Monday, Marwa said that uniformed and plainclothes police officers have been deployed at the busy channel and are manning it 24 hours.Marwa said that the channel was experiencing increased traffic due to the growth in the tourism sector in South Coast as well as busy transport activities across the mainland and Mombasa Island. The regional coordinator said security has been beefed up and all the inspection systems at the channel are functional.“Likoni channel connects us with the neighbouring country Tanzania and is always busy due to the increased traffic,” said Marwa.Marwa said he had a brief meeting with the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) Director Bakari Khamis Gowa on how they will manage transport activities during the festive season and was assured that all was well.“Do not fear crossing to South Coast or to the Shelly public beach at Likoni. The Likoni ferry channel is very safe as all the security apparatus are vigilant,” said Marwa. He said all the security apparatus not only in Mombasa but the Coast region were working round the clock to ensure that the festive season runs smoothly. He said all public places and tourist attraction sites were fully secured.Marwa also said that he had deployed enough security officers to churches and other busy places so that nothing disrupts celebrations during this festive season. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
