Police in Kisumu are investigating leaflets that are being circulated within the disputed border of Maseno.
Speaking in Kisumu today, the county commissioner Erastus Ekidor said they have been forced to beef up security in the area.
Ekidor said police are on high alert and following leads that will lead to the arrest of those circulating the leaflets.
“We are taking nothing to chance, our presence is very heavy on the ground and very soon we will nab all those fanning tribal animosity in the area,” he said.
He urged the locals to remain calm as there is enough security to ensure there is law and order.
The commissioner further asked for cooperation among the locals to ensure those bent on causing disharmony in the area are arrested.
Ekidor said the political sentiments that might cause unrest in the area should be avoided.
He noted that he has been in contact with his Governor Jack Ranguma and advised that the boundary issue be addressed through existing authorities in the country.
Ekidor said he will work with the boundary as it is now until the matter is addressed and the stand communicated.
“Right now we still use the existing boundaries until it is decided otherwise,” he said.
