Security at the Coast has been heightened following the return of 300 al-Shabaab recruits in Kwale and 100 in Mombasa County.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Coast police commander Francis Wanjohi assured residents of their security, adding that more officers had been deployed in the region.
"The 100 returnees who are back in Mombasa have already surrendered in lieu of a government amnesty and we are monitoring them closely,” said Wanjohi.
He however said that 40 additional uniformed and civilian forces from the GSU, regular police, ATPU and administration police had been deployed to hunt down the returnees in Kwale County.
"We were forced to dispatch more officers to Kwale. There has been tension after the murder of three Nyumba Kumi officials and an al-Shabaab returnee,” said the police boss.
This comes amidst a terror alert that was issued during the month of Ramadhan.
