Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has assured tourists, residents and other visitors who are expected to visit the region during the festive season of their security.Marwa said security has been beefed up in the Coast region to ensure all visitors and residents are safe.Marwa said police have mapped out zones perceived as dangerous, as international and local tourists continue to flock the region for the Christmas festivities.Addressing journalists in his office, Marwa said adequate security will be provided around Mombasa and its environs, to ensure both local and foreign tourists are well protected.The regional coordinator also assured participants of the ongoing primary school heads conference of their safety.“The region has been peaceful during the electioneering period. The only challenge now is how to maintain it. We must not allow anarchy in this region. Security will be doubled and intelligence gathering stepped up,” said Marwa.Marwa said tourism has picked and hotels in the region are fully booked owing to efforts by police to beef up security.“We want to sustain that. Tourism is the economic backbone of this region. Hotels are reinstating the sacked staff,” said Marwa.“This month will be the busiest for Coast hoteliers. Visitors worldwide and locally will be trooping in and we must guarantee them that they will be secure,” he added.
