Police in Mombasa have beefed up security in the region in a bid to ensure residents and tourists visiting the area for the Easter holidays are safe.

Speaking during a press briefing in Mombasa on Wednesday, Coast Regional Commander Francis Wanjohi assured residents that measures have been put in place to ensure the county is secure.

"We have instructed our officers to carry out 24-hour patrols during this festive season. If you do not spot any officers in your region, feel free to inform us,” said Wanjohi.

Wanjohi further warned residents in the county against harbouring aliens.

"Mombasa is a safe County. Kindly do not allow any strangers to roam in the area. Share information about any suspicious persons among you with the police. If found habouring aliens, you may end up serving a longer sentence than the alien,” said Wanjohi.

Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa who was also present during the briefing said security has been beefed up at all major airports following the terror attack at Brussels.

"The region is on a high state of alert. Security has been beefed up in public beaches, tourist hotels, airports and airstrips in the Coast region,” said Marwa.
