More than 500 police officers have been deployed in major towns within Athi River District to prevent crime during this festive season.
Athi River police boss Mutoro Kizito said 200 officers will patrol estates and slums within the towns while remaining others patrol town centres and highways.
Kizito revealed that vehicles plying major highways such as Nairobi - Mombasa and Mombasa - Namanga roads will also be inspected throughout the season.
"Security at major shopping malls and supermarkets in towns within Athi River District has also been stepped up to avert insecurity," Mutoro told the press in his office on Thursaday.
The police boss noted that the numbers of strangers visiting the towns were increasingly high as compared to other months of the year advising the residents to be on outlook not to welcome criminals.
Mutoro said the police force was committed to ensuring that residents peacefully enjoyed their christmas festive season without unnecessary interruption due to insecurity.
