The commissioner said illicit brews must be eradicated to bring back the lost glory of some towns and villages in Nakuru County where local brews have taken a centre stage.

Addressing a meeting of stakeholders in Molo, Birik urged police officers and chiefs to unite and deliver the government pledge of mopping out unlicensed brewers.

He expressed optimism that illicit liquors will be wiped out in the county, urging district security committees and the National Authority for Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) officials to fight illicit brews without mercy on brewers.

Birik said illicit brews have led to family break ups, adding that drinkers had abandoned their family responsibilities after excessive consumption.

He said the number of children suffering due to parents turning to illicit brews has been on the increase. He urged all stakeholders to unite and support the government in fighting the vice.
