Security in Mwembe estate, Kisii county has improved a great deal after the government brought on board the council of elders to support the enhanced security strategies employed to reduce crime in the area.
Addressing the County Consultative Forum organised by the Directorate of National Cohesion at Mwembe Isipe Hotel on Tuesday, Kisii county commissioner Chege Mwangi said that council of elders had done a commendable work to ensure that security in the area is back to normal.
He added that the collaboration between the security officers and the area residents has seen criminal activities in the area reduce drastically in the past few months.
He said that security enhancement was also backed by putting in place the Nyumba Kumi strategy which showed that the national government was committed to reducing crime to a manageable level in the villages and town estates.
He appreciated the role of the Council of Elders through which over 90 percent of cases of crime in the area are easily finalised and the conflicting communities brought together hence reducing the government expenditure on security.
“We all need a peaceful county and we are calling for the residents to ensure that they work with our officers in fighting crime that has been on the rise in the past” he added.
