Kisumu County Security and Intelligence Committee (SIC) has guaranteed residents that adequate security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the election day.
County Commissioner, Maalim Mohammed, told the media on Wednesday that adequate security had been positioned and all perceived trouble spots mapped out to ensure peace.
Speaking after chairing the County’s national government multi-agency Security Intelligence Committee meeting, Maalim stated that all impromptu demos have been banned in bid to contain situations where some goons have in the past hijacked such demonstrations to participate in hooliganism.
“We have secured all vital systems, provided all Returning Officers with security and all the 531 polling centers and 1,027 polling stations and all the materials needed," he said.
The Commissioner warned that security apparatus were on high alert and anybody preparing to engage chaos will be dealt with firmly.
“We want to reassure the residents and business community to stay calm as their lives and assets will be safe, no violence will be tolerated as witnessed in 2007/2008,” warned Maalim.
He further disclosed that Kondele, Kachock, Central Business District (CBD) among other informal settlements have been identified to be volatile areas for violence.
He said a command center has been installed at the Kisumu Central Police Station where members of the public will be able to make toll free calls in the event of any security threats for speedy action.
