Security in the Coast region has been intensified ahead of the festive season in a bid to end crime that has affected most parts of Mombasa County.
Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa said that police officers will conduct patrols in the county, as it will be hosting the Annual International Cultural Festival which kicked off on Thursday, and the Agricultural show at the end of the month.
Speaking during a press briefing at his office, Marwa said adequate security will be provided around the city and its environs to ensure both local and foreign tourists attending the festival are well protected.
“We have deployed officers at the different parts of the region which are prone to crime and the perpetrators will be arrested. During the festive season, police will patrol different areas to ensure everything goes as planned,” he said, as quoted by Baraka FM.
Marwa also urged residents in the region to maintain security during the August festive season, and cooperate with security personnel at all times.
Marwa encouraged both visitors and the residents of the region to report cases of insecurity to the authorities without fear, and work closely with the police in order to arrest members of the criminal gangs who want to disrupt peace and intimidate people.
