Four security guards were on Monday charged with the murder of a herder at the controversial Muthera farm in Mau Narok. Lesue Sururu, Laanoi Simpiri, Daniel Nkuto and Raiyan Dapash were accused of killing Katoine ole Keshe on Thursday last week at the farm belonging to the family of former Cabinet minister Mbiyu Koinange. The four, who took care of security matters at the farm, were not required to respond to the charges since they had not undergone mental assessment. Defence lawyer David Mong’eri argued that it was unfair for the State to have hurriedly arrested and charged his clients before completing investigations. He further asked the court to allow him to observe the post-mortem examination on Keshe’s body, alleging that there were ‘external forces’ compelling the investigating officer to quickly charge the four guards. The judge ordered the suspects to be remanded at Njoro police station for 10 days. The accused are expected to plead to the murder charges on October 24.
