Two guards were on Thursday drugged when five armed robbers broke into a businessman’s house in Mkomani, Kongowea area.

Kisauni police boss Christopher Rotich who confirmed the incident said the guards were drugged and locked in a room before the robbers proceeded with their plan.The security guards, Musa Siayo and Abdallah Kazungu are recuperating at Coast General Hospital but police say they are now in stable condition.Rotich said the businessman, identified as Phares Patel, raised alarm attracting police officers who were on patrol in the area.The officers responded swiftly shooting dead one of the gang members as he attempted to flee the scene.Rotich said the robbers retaliated during the confrontation with the police forcing the officers to shoot.The police boss confirmed they recovered machetes from the suspects during the incident, adding that they believe the four escaped with bullet injuries.“One was shot dead after he tried to attack our officers. The officers acted swiftly and gunned him down,” said the police boss as quoted by Baraka FM.Rotich said a manhunt has been launched for the four who escaped.
