Security in the Coast region has been intensified ahead of the official opening of the Mombasa International Agricultural Show.
Speaking to journalists at the show ground on Monday, Mombasa County Commissioner Mr Evans Achoki said police are on high alert ahead of the official opening of the show on Wednesday.
Mr Achoki said police patrols will be heightened with more law enforcers being deployed at the Mkomani show ground and in various areas in the county.
He said they have made arrangements and adequate measures have been put in place and everything was in order.
“Today we have officially taken over the Mkomani show ground and its environs. The security of the showground has been heightened and the OCPD and two deputies will be in charge of security,” Mr Achoki said.
The county commissioner further said that they have banned bodaboda operators from the show ground due to security purposes.
“Motorcycles will not be allowed within the show ground and everybody must alight outside the gate. This is because of security reasons,” he added.
Dozens of snifer dogs have also been deployed to the show ground and its environs to avert any security threat.
