Security has been heightened in Nairobi and its environs ahead of Kenya's 53rd Jamhuri Day fete at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The Nairobi Regional Coordinator, Ann Ng'etich affirmed that government had put in place security measures to ensure no criminal cases.

She said they had enhanced patrols across the County and assured that the celebrations will be conducted with incidents.

Ng'etich also asked Kenyans to come out in huge numbers and participate in the celebrations, saying gates would be open to the public from 6am to 8am.

"Kenyans should be part of this year's Jamhuri Day celebrations. Security has been heightened to thwart any incidents or criminal elements,'' she said, Sunday.

Jamhuri is a national holiday in the Country, celebrated on December 12 annually. Jamhuri is the Swahili word for 'republic' and the holiday is meant to officially mark the date of Kenya's independence which happened on December 12, 1963.
