Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama has stated that the reason for increased insecurity is mainly because of the poor salaries that the police officers get.
Speaking on Sunday during a service in Isinga location in Kangundo, Muthama condemned the State for the security officers’ underpayment.
He said, “It is very discouraging for the security officers who take care of citizens by risking their lives and at the end of it they are paid underpaid. Their living conditions do not motivate them in carrying out their duties which is the cause of the deplorable security situation we are facing currently.”
Muthama also called upon the national and county governments to ensure police officers live better lives.
At the same time, Muthama blamed Machakos Members of Parliament for not presenting the county residents’ predicaments in Parliament and accused them of being quiet on any development suggestions in their respective constituencies.
“The MPs from Machakos were elected to represent the people but this has not been evident in the past one year. They should table the problems their people are facing like the massive shortage of water and food,” said Muthama.
Muthama also condemned the killing of Kabete MP George Muchai and called upon the government to ensure all investigations are done and the attackers are apprehended.
