Addressing the press at Kisii Central police station area OCPD Francis Nguli said that security agents had advanced their search for the members of the gang believed to be causing the public sleepless nights.

While parading some of the items recovered from a suspect arrested last weekend at Jogoo Estate in Kisii Town, Nguli hailed close working ties between his team, community policing committees and the entire public that has seen reduced cases of insecurity in the region.

With the help of the public and the suspect who was arrested at Jogoo, the OCPD revealed that police had so far collected enough information which they were putting together as they hunted for the gang members.

“Police officers over the weekend helped rescue a suspect from mob justice after he allegedly broke into somebody’s house and stole a radio and a gas cooker," said Nguli.

"We took him to the hospital for treatment after which he led us to his house where we found so many stolen items among them television sets, computers, hospital sheets, some items with Kenya Power labels, police boots, and loudspeaker belonging to a local church,” he said.

Nguli urged members of the public who may have lost their property to come out with receipts and help in identifying them from the recovered items.

Meanwhile, police have advised members of the public to avoid taking the law into their hands whenever they arrested a suspect but instead follow the laid down legal procedures in the administration of justice.

“As much as we welcome the contribution of the public in enhancing security, I would like to remind each and everyone that the constitution is very clear as it protects all citizens," said Nguli.

"Even a suspect has fundamental rights to enjoy until proven guilty by the courts,” he added.

“No one has powers to make a judgement and administer punishment as we witness in mob justice. We will always oppose mob justice since, through it, we can end up losing innocent citizens,” he added.
