Regional commissioner Mohamud Saleh has assured residents in Garissa County that enough security has been provided following the Al-Shabaab attack at a police station in Ijara.

Mr Saleh said security in the county has been restored adding that the government has put in place firm measures to ensure security.

This is after suspected Al-Shabaab attackers burnt down Ijara Police Station in Garissa County and an AP camp on Saturday.

Mr Saleh said officers are drawn from the KDF, rural border patrol unit and the regal police are pursuing the militants.

The regional commissioner assured residents that security agencies were in control of the situation and urged them to work closely and volunteer information to security agencies that will help assist in fighting terrorism.

“Security has been restored in Ijara sub-county following the Saturday morning raid by al-Shabaab militants. Am urging the residents to volunteer information that will help arrest the culprits.”

“The militants can run but they cannot hide. We will smoke them out of their hideout,” Mr Saleh said.

During the Saturday incident, the Al-Shabaab militants numbering about 50 also stole a police Land Cruiser vehicle and destroyed a Safaricom communication mast after hitting it with a rocket-propelled grenade.
