The group held a peaceful demonstration in the area demanding the transfer of Waiganjo; this follows after Waiganjo disagreeing with members of the local community.

The group accused Waiganjo of ordering institution workers to uproot their more than 40,000 mature tree seedlings worth Sh10 million belonging to a women group.

The protesters were members of a shamba system.

The system was introduced during former President Daniel Arap Moi’s government to help in increase forest cover in the country.

Gladys Wairimu, a resident, accused Waiganjo of raising the allotment fees from Sh250 to Sh5,000 per half an acre contrary to shamba system guidelines.

Area MCA, Steve Kihara said Waiganjo has been very disrespectful to the residents, especially the elderly women.

“This is not right. He is frustrating the women who are earning a living through planting of trees. It is a shame that he even picks machetes and hoes from the ladies who go to till in the land,” said Kihara.

They called for the immediate transfer of the officer. Efforts to reach the officer did not bear fruits as he was said to be in a meeting.
