Nakuru nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Emma Mbugua has challenged women to seek leadership positions at the county government.
Mbugua told journalists in Nakuru town on Wednesday that women have the potential to contribute to development and leadership matters.
She said that for a long time women have been left out of serious governance issues and that they should rise up and demand what rightfully belongs to them.
“Women should no longer fear but rather seek elective positions at the counties, national government and even in the private sector,” said Mbugua.
The MCA said that women have a crucial role to play in development and that that they should be on the frontline to champion for change.
Mbugua added that the government has recognized the role of women in development and many of them are being engaged in various forums.
She asked elected women leaders to provide support and help up lift the lives of fellow women across the country.
Ms Mbugua said that unity would be important if they want their issues to be heard by the society. “Women should support each, they should stop being their own enemies, “she added.
The MCA appealed to omen to form more groups and ‘chamas’ and apply for development funds. She said the funds would promote their economic wellbeing and help fight poverty.
