Police in Molo Sub County have urged residents and groups planning to carry out protest in the area to seek permission from police before holding it.
Molo OCPD, Job Lesikinwa, said the two demonstrations that were held last week over the poor state of Molo- Kibunja road and the Molo -Olenguruone road were illegal since participants failed to clear with the police before barricading roads with burning tyres and stones.
He said the constitution has given citizen right to protest but the freedom has limitations and thus all the set procedures must be adhere to.
Speaking in his office, the police division boss said resident should use the right channel to air their grievances instead of shutting roads distracting the free flow of traffic in major routes.
“We are all aware that their complaints are genuine, but they did not follow the procedure,” said Lesikinwa.
He said police are free to give protesters security on top of making sure laws and order is observed.
He noted that some criminals had taken advantage of the poor road to rob travellers and goods on transit adding that police have intensified regular patrols to enhance security.
He said crime rates in Molo have drastically reduced calling on resident to partner with the police as they deliver their security duties.
