At least 64 sheep have been killed by a marauding leopard believed to have strayed from Maasai Mara to the nearby Kuresoi South constituency.
On Wednesday night, the cat allegedly killed six sheep belonging to Samuel Towett at Sinendet location.
Towett said he heard a commotion and when he switched on the lights, he saw the leopard charging at him but he ran back into the house during the 12am incident. He said that when he woke up, he found only two of his eight sheep remaining.
Area residents are now living in fear following a series of attacks on domestic animals by the marauding beast.
Mike Koech, a resident, laments that despite top Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials from Nakuru and Narok counties holding a meeting at Olenguruone where residents aired their grievances, no efforts have been put in place to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
He said wild animals from Maasai Mara have migrated to some parts of Mau forest, creating fears and destroying crops.
Residents in areas bordering Mau forest of Kiptagich, Tinet and Kiptororo claimed that they have made numerous complaints to KWS and the Kenya Forest Service requesting them to seize all wild animals roaming freely.
Kuresoi South deputy county commissioner Silas Gitobu has, however, said that all those affected have been issued with forms to fill to claim compensation from KWS.
Area MP Zakayo Cheruiyot has called on KWS to compensate those affected without delays to eneble them continue with their lives.
KWS has also erected traps at Sinendet to capture the cat but so far none has been caught.
