The management of South Eastern Kenya University (Seku) has unveiled its plans to set up two campuses in Kitui and Wote towns.  According to The Star, the two campuses are expected to cost the institution close to Sh600 million. Osir Otteng, who is the Head of public relations and communication, said the process is expected to be complete by September 2018.

Osir was addressing different stakeholders at the main campus in Kwavonza, Kitui, on Tuesday.  He expressed confidence that the new campuses will improve learning across the nation. The university currently rents premises in Wote and Kitui. The construction of Wote campus is ongoing. The first phase of the project comprises of administration block and lecture halls.

“The Wote town campus is being constructed at the cost of Sh296 million, while the Kitui one costs Sh286 million. It is a massive investment,” Otteng said, as quoted by the local daily.

He also said that the university is committed to ensuring that each student gets an opportunity to access better education.

“Seku is a reputable institution and we do not want to have a reputation for operating from rented places in towns that give a negative picture,” he added.
