Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe has dismissed claims of government interference in the selection of the new IEBC chairperson.
The Nation reports that Kiraithe said the government had nothing to do with the selection panel’s decision to re-advertise the position of the commission’s chairperson.
On Thursday, the spokesperson said the delay will be justified when the Bernadette Musundi-ledpanel selects the right candidate for the job, adding that the selection of the IEBC boss and commissioners should be made within the law.
Last week, the panel, revoked its list of the short-listed candidates and re-advertised the position a fresh.
Musundi said they had taken the decision in light of queries that had arisen on the suitability of the shortlisted candidates following background checks.
The five included; David Mukii Mereka, Roseline Odhiambo-Odede, John Mutakha Kangu, Margaret Wambui Ngugi Shava and David Malakwen Kiprop.
The panel urged them not to re-apply.
