The just concluded selection of party nominees to Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for nomination to Parliament was a sham and a fraud.Lawyer and Tukuka Founder Sandra Ocholla has said that many parties nominated party officials, relatives, girlfriends, nomination losers and other people who do not represent the 'right groups'."The whole philosophy of parties nominating is to ensure we have adequate representation in Parliament that takes care of all those groups that appear marginalized," said Ocholla on NTV AmLive Show on Friday.Ocholla said that she hopes that IEBC will exercise its powers and struck out those who had ended in the nomination lists 'wrongly' and have the right people forwarded to them by the participating political parties."But one thing I am happy about is that the we have other institutions involved in this matter like the Iebc that now will be expected to look through these names to ensure that the processes and procedures were followed, and that we are sticking to the constitutional requirements," she added.Jubilee Deputy Chairperson Veronica Maina on her part said that she believes in the democratisation of political party processes saying there is no way a country can enjoy democracy when parties negate the same."Unless you democratize political parties, people will continue feeling that the processes are not free and fair. So if you generate a list of nominees based on unfair process ultimately there will be a backlash," she said.Maina is one of those whose names have been submitted by Jubilee Party to IEBC for consideration.
