The Selection panel tasked with interviewing and selecting the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has settled on three successful candidates after last week interviews.

The panel chaired by Elizabeth Muli has settled on lawyer Lucy Kambuni, Jacob Nyakundi Ondari and Nordin Haji.

The panel in its interview report  says that the three candidates were successful and their names will be forwarded to the President.

The panel concluded the interview's on Friday last week where 10 candidates had applied for the position that was left vacant after the then DPP Keriako Tobiko resigned and appointed Environment Cabinet Secretary.

"As per the law, the panel is mandated to pick three successful candidates whose names the panel committee will  forward to the President in order of merit," the panel chair  said as quoted by a local daily.

 President Uhuru Kenyatta will pick one name out of the three based on merit.

The President will then forward the name of successful candidate to Parliament for vetting.

If approved by Parliament, the candidate will then be formally sworn in office for the DPP position.

Successful candidate will serve for an eight year non-renewable term.
