A group in Gachororo area of Juja has found a way to develop themselves as a self-help group from low income earners to improve their daily lives.
The group comprises bodaboda owners, quarry and flower farm workers around the area.
Vision Men 2020 self-help group chairman Michael Gitau said that the group has 15 members who are all low income earners with a big vision.
Gitau revealed that each member contributes Sh200 every week, an amount that is affordable for all participants. He said the members find it easier to contribute weekly than a monthly sum of Sh800, which would be hard for the members to contribute.
The chairman said the group has so far invested in a tent that is used for events in Gachororo. He said that the tent cost the group Sh80,000 and they rent it for events like wedding, graduation and burials at a cost of between Sh2,000 to Sh2,500.
The members also benefit from loans which they repay with a five percent interest.
Gitau revealed that the group is aware of the youth-empowering Uwezo Funds and said that they are in the process of receiving them to expand their enterprise.
He said the groups hope to raise their children in a comfortable environment and also exercise their entrepreneurial skills.
