The Senate Committee on Roads and Transport has inspected the impassable Molo-Olenguruone-Kiptagich Road assuring residents that the road will be urgently tarmacked.
Led by its chairman Chris Obure, the committee made several stopovers in major centres along the 35km road, promising area residents of the government’s commitment to constructing and maintaining the road to avert losses.
Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, Liza Chelule (nominated) and Kiambu senator Paul Kimani Wa Matangi termed the matter as urgent after receiving petitions from different stakeholders from Molo, Keringet, Olenguruone and Kiptagich.
The residents expressed their fury on the bad state of the road and urged the leaders to address their grievances.
“Instead of Kibunja- Olenguruone road being a blessing to us, it’s like a curse. People have suffered for at least ten years. We have demonstrated several times and we are happy that the senate committee has come to have a taste of what we experience daily,” said a bodaboda operator in the area.
Senator Obure maintained that the government will allocate enough funds to cater for the road adding that road engineers had already done an evaluation in readiness for the tarmacking.
“I want to assure you that the senate committee will table your grievances in regard to this road so that the government acts immediately,” he said.
