Speaking yesterday in Nakuru after a successful oversight and networking tour in Nakuru, Nyeri senator Mutahi Kagwe, who is the chairman of the committee, praised Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for his move in this ICT development.

“I want to send a congratulatory message to the county administration for being the leading county to have such an initiative.  We are aware of the hitches that ensued at the beginning just like any other new project but we are now confident and certain that it is working,” said Kagwe.

“It is evident that you have curved a niche in ICT development and embracing new technology by seeing that free Wi-Fi is now available to the people,” Mutahi noted.

Nakuru County deputy governor Joseph Ruto dismissed claims that the committee was conducting investigations on the loss of Sh200 million in the project.

Nominated senator Paul Njoroge said the purpose of the visit was to understand ICT developments in the county and strategise on how the Senate Committee can help build the ICT capacity of the Nakuru County.

Mutahi pledged the Senate’s support to the county through various ICT projects. He said this will be in form of legislation, lobbying and summoning Cabinet Secretaries to relay to them the various ICT needs of various counties.

Mutahi was also accompanied by his Kwale counterpart Juma Boy and Uasin Gishu senator Isaac Melly.
