Senators sitting on the Senate Finance Committee have turned their heat on chairman Billow Kerrow over delays in attending to petitions tabled in the House, accusing him of not calling sittings to attend to the petitions.
According to Senate Standing Orders, petitions must be heard and their reports tabled in the Senate in at most 60 days.
However, petitions concerning Bungoma and Vihiga governors Ken Lusaka and Moses Akaranga had not been dispensed even after the 60-day duration had lapsed, with the petition against Akaranga having gone way over six months.
Expressing his worries, Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula lamented that the delay in Lusaka’s petition was denying Bungoma residents justice and encouraging further misappropriation of funds.
"Already the governor is boasting out there that this petition will not be heard further. Why is it that this petition has been pending before this committee for more than two months? The last time it came before the committee was on July 19, suspiciously it took a month before we could call the governor to respond after we heard from petitioners," Wetang'ula complained.
With the backing of Senators Boni Khalwale (Kakamega) and Mutahi Kagwe (Nyeri), Wetangula accused Kerrow (Mandera) of the suspicious delays and vowed to call a meeting to resolve it.
