This is after Speaker Ekwee Ethuro summoned the legislators for a special sitting in a gazette notice.

According to to the Star, Ethuro, in a gazette notice, said the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will be the only business of the day.

The senators had been summoned on Wednesday this week to discuss the controversial changes passed by National Assembly MPs on Thursday last week.

Cord MPs declined to vote for the changes and walked out of the chambers in protest.

During the Senate session, Ethuro pushed the debate to next week to allow room for public input.

Already, the Senate Legal Affairs Committee is conducting public sessions as it seeks their views on the contentious changes.
