The Senate is set to hold a meeting with governors and national treasury next week to end the stalemate over the delay in disbursement of county government funds which has affected operations.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka said they will have the meeting in Kakamega county during the annual devolution conference set to begin April .23 to April 27.
Speaking in Malindi on Wednesday during the beginning of a two-day induction workshop for the Standing Committee on Justice legal affairs and human rights he said the meeting will bring on board all parties involved to get to know what has led to the delays in disbursements of funds.
Lusaka said it was the mandate of the Senate to protect devolution as stipulated in the constitution.
Since January there has been an outcry from many counties on the shortage of funds with some not able to pay their employees and contractors for months.
“We shall be having a meeting during the devolution conference, there will be the treasury, and everybody to speak candidly on the issue so as to know where the problem is and come up with the solution,’’ he said.
The former Governor said the meeting will also bring an end to the blame games as everyone will be there to state their concerns.
He said it’s impossible to scrap the Senate as if done there would be no devolution.
“The constitution is a legal document, the previous Senate dealt with issues that were supposed to be dealt with,’’ he said.
