Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has poked holes on former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo's senatorial candidature, asking him to "retire peacefully."
Kimaiyo is seeking to unseat Murkomen on a Kanu party ticket during the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on Monday shortly after presenting his nomination papers to IEBC, Murkomen further took a swipe on Kimaiyo's tenure as police boss, accusing him of failure.
"We can’t allow this county to become a retirement place for those who have served their terms in public office,” Murkomen said.
But speaking separately on Sunday, Kimaiyo defended his tenure as Inspector General, exuding confidence in winning the senatorial seat.
He further told off critics, saying he is politically experienced to win the seat.
“I have been in politics for a very long time. I crisscrossed the country with Moi...I understand politics more than any of them,” he said.
Murkomen will be defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
