Just a day after Aden Duale wrote to the office of the Controller of Budget over the reallocation of funds by the Garissa county government, the Senate's Public Accounting Committee has issued a firm notice warning all county bosses against buying time in responding to audit queries in management of funds.
The Senates County Public Accounts & Investment Committee (PAIC) is now threatening to approve the Auditor General’s audit report on governors who have since failed to defend themselves over alleged misappropriation of county resources.
The committee further said it may be compelled to prepare its reports on all counties found to have misused public funds. This is after five county bosses who were summoned to respond to audit queries failed to appear on Wednesday.
“This Senate committee shall proceed and get into all the audit reports whether a county governor is present or not. And for any outstanding issue, we will just have to put a disclaimer,” read a statement by the committee's vice chair John Lonyangapuo.
The notice is thus expected to send jitters to governor Jama's administration, since Duale's Tuesday letter is an indicator that all is not well in the county.
