Nakuru Senator James Mungai has accused Governor Kinuthia Mbugua of misappropriation of county funds.
Speaking in Nakuru, the Senator said the county was allocated a lot of money from the central government but a huge amount cannot be accounted on how it was spend.
"There is no way you cannot tell me Sh23.3 billion just disappeared. That's very serious," said the Senator.
He further said the Controller of Budget had accused the county government of owing suppliers of various goods and services.
"Recently, the Controller of Budget said the county owes to suppliers and contractors Sh2.46 billion. Something is amiss somewhere and must be rectified," he said.
These claims come just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the county on a two-day tour where he revealed that the county had received Sh23.3 billion from the national Treasury.
Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto also launched several multi-billion projects.
